The business originally developed in trade of bulk wines and spirits from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Spain, Greece and Portugal to France.Norbert GARDET, President of the company, was elected President of the prestigious" CONFEDERATION EUROPEENNE DES AUXILAIRES VITI-VINICOLES ", an association of exclusive European merchants. This organisation had offices in Paris and Bruxelles. Mr. Norbert GARDET held this position for 25 years. In 1968 Norbert GARDET was named President of the EUROPEAN BROKERS ASSOCIATION and held this position for 15 years until his retirement.In 1967, Christian GARDET, anticipating marketing and sales shifts within the wine industry to bottles, established a subsidiary dealing in the exportation of bottled French wines for then unknown groups of French cooperatives. Today these groups of cooperatives represent the largest sCompagnie Internationale de Vins&Spiritueuxce of supply of the French market.In 1975. Christian GARDET was named President of European operations of the family group, with responsability for international expansion. During this period C.I.V.S. SA developed and marketed the brands SOMMELIERE ( U.S.A.) , A. LONGCHAMPS, GARDET, MOMENT, COTE SEC, CRISTENGER champagne Grand Cru, BOISAGE Cognac X.O.and the prestigious X.O. Cognac liqueur FRAGONARD targeted to the American market. The GARDET family has further expanded during the eighties the business by establishing a subsidiary in New YorK. The present holding Companyhas its headquarters in Marseille, France located at the strategic center of the main areas of the wines French,Italian and Spanish productions.Christian GARDET currently serves as President. Over the past 70 years the GARDET business has established an extensive and unique KNOWLEDGE of EUROPEAN PROCUREMENT SOURCES, while at the same time developing an acute awareness of the value investigating less traditional sources of supply. These sources reflect the highest quality products.CIVS acts on behalf of a significant number of wine & spirit associations of producers throughout Europe, principally in the FRENCH & ITALIAN markets.
