Not only has this been substantiated by independent market research companies, but price surveys conducted by consumer groups and the media regularly confirm that the Group remains the price leader in its field. Through the years supermarkets in the Shoprite stable have proved to be firm favourites with South African consumers. The latest Trade Search Omnibus study conducted by internationally acclaimed research company AC Nielsen, revealed that 65% of South Africans prefer to do their shopping at the Group's food stores. The Shoprite group, which now employs 68 987 people which includes 1, 518 graduates, have directly created some 18 000 jobs during the last four years. It has led 62 208 training interventions over the past year, is at the forefront of skills development in its sector. This year alone 625 learnerships were completed-the biggest number of learners to qualify from any one company in the retail sector ever. The Group is also the largest contributor of skills levies to the Wholesale and Retail Sector and Education Training Authority (W & RSeta) and curently boast with a training compliment of 770 management employees.
