• About Us : SAN POLO WINERY History: Juan Giol, Bautista Gargantini and Pascual Toso came from Europe to Argentina around 1.880 and settled in Mendoza. They associated and established their first winery, being really pioneers of the Argentine wine industry. We are their direct descendents in fourth generation.Our grandparents Humberto Giol (Juans son) and Eleonora Gargantini (Bautistas daughter) got married and in the thirties, with the same spirit of their parents, bought wineries, vineyards and also founded Bodega y Vinedos San Polo. These possessions were situated in one of the best environments for wine growing and wine making, right by the foot of the Andes Mountain range.Nowadays Alejandra Giol and Rodolfo Masera are the owners of the winery, they want to followthe same spirit oftheir Great-Grand father andhis love for the wine industry.At present we have 180 ha of vineyards at La Consulta (Uco Valley), a district at the foot of the Andes, between 1.000 and 1.200 meters above sea level, with latitude 33 degrees south; the soil is alluvial, the texture is stony, irrigated by water coming from the melting of the snow-capped high peaks and glaciers in the Andes. There is a great thermal amplitude between 8 and 35 centigrades degree, with the highest temperature registered during the day.The vineyards have varieties of first quality like Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Syrah and Semillon, worked with high technology to produce wines of the highest quality, The essential complement to produce these superb wines, is our winery with a capacity of 1.320.572, 92 gallons (5.000.000 liters), adapted to the latestrequirements of modern technology and a team of professionals of international first level. The Winery:It has got 57 concrete tanks with a capacityof fermentation between11.200 lt. up to 15.900 lt.With these volumes we can manage the fermentation stage very well, obtaining exciting flavors, aromas and body in our winesOur storage capacity in tanks is of4.345.100 lts.Underground we have6 cellars to age the wines in barrels. We can age the wines in up to 500 oak barrels.Awards:Great Gold Medal with Zentas Reserve 2008, Gold Medal With Zentas Grand Reserve 2006, two Silver Medal in Auka Malbec 2008 and in Don Alfonso Malbec 2006, All of this in Vinandino 2009, international Wine contestThe quality of our wines is so good that they were ranked with 87 points in the red wine category by the prestigious Wine Spectator. Also, they were awarded with the Silver medal in The International Wine Challenge in Texas.Malbec 2006 and 2004 were awarded with the Bronze Medal in the Argentina Wine Award. Also, in the same Tasting, Malbec Single Vineyard was awarded with Bronze Medal.
