The surrounding fields are a testimony to the modern face of Indian agriculture. The region is rich in resFortune Foods Ltd.ces and produces a variety of fruits like grape, pomegranate, papaya, guava, strawberry, chikoo, etc. The area also produces vegetables like tomato, potato, onion, garlic, etc.This region is traditionally a self sufficient area and is also an important sourcing base for Mumbai, given the proximity.The unit was initially set up as a 100% Export Oriented Unit for the processing and export of Tomato paste, Mango Pulp and Dehydrated Vegetables. However due to differences between the promoters the unit was non-operational for around 2-3 years.The present management took over the unit in 1996. The unit was converted into a DTA from EOU. The company was then set up as a co-packing base for Tetra Pak and thereafter the company got quite a few orders with reputed brands like Godrej Jumpin Tomato Puree, Parle Frooti, etc. In addition the company was also involved in nascent brand launches and trials for products like Onjus, Kool Kokum Drink, Kool Jal Jeera, Shakti- Awla Drink, Shakti Awla-Ginger Drink, Purita Mineral Water, etc.Thereafter the company received an order from Hindustan Lever Ltd. For the processing of Tomato Paste and further processing into Tomato Ketchup for their brand Kissan. This range was expanded into Jam and Squashes also. The unit was further modernized to increase the productivity for the HLL requirement. However due to the corporate decision to shift the production to a newly acquired unit by the company led to canceling of the said contract.However during the stint with HLL the company was handling huge volumes. The company has processed & dispatched more than 3,000 tons of Ketchup,1,500 tons of Fruit Jams and 2,200 tons of Fruit Squashes. Further more the entire range of ketchup i. E. Plain, no-onion-garlic, tom chi, tom pataka was processed in all SKUs. In jams the unit was processing Mixed Fruit, Mango and Pineapple flavors. Orange Squash, Pineapple Squash, Mango Squash, Lemon Squash, Lemon-Barley Water, Lemon Cordial & Rose Syrup were also processed.The highlight of the association was undoubtedly the processing of a huge order of Rose Syrup for the Indian Army stationed at the border. More than 350 Mt of Rose Syrup was processed packed and dispatched in 18 days time.The company was also approached by Parle for the setting up of a model plant for the packing of Frooti Mango drink in Pet Bottles, a relatively new concept. The unit was the first unit to start with the packaging of fruit drink in Pet bottles. The range was scaled up to include 250ml,500ml and 1000ml.Today the company has doubled its capacity for Frooti production. The filling machine has been modernized and a new machine has been added. The company has also installed a bottle blowing machine for Pet bottles
