Visa News: Home Office is overhauling the current immigration system which will turn into a new points based system next year. The new points based immigration system is based on the principle that all migrants will require a sponsor and will consist out of 5 Tiers (Tiers 1 which is the HSMP is exempted from having a sponsor) . This scheme is likely to become operational in autumn 2008. There are no definite timelines and dates for the implementation of all the different tiers at this stage, except Tier 1 already operational and Tier 2 which will come into force end November 2008. It is anticipated that all other tiers will be introduced by the end of 2009. Although the new Tier 2 (Work Permits) system has not been finalised yet, we feel that the Home Office may become stricter Under the Points Based System, employers, colleges and others who benefit from migration and wish to act as sponsors of skilled, temporary and student migrants would need a licence to do so.
